Two Russian Mine Explosion

The dangerous conditions in the Russian underground Raspadskaya forced to suspend rescue efforts of the 83 people who remain trapped since yesterday. At least 12 workers died and 53 were wounded in two explosions of methane in coal mining, located in the Siberian region of Kemerovo coal (3,500 kilometers east of Moscow), as reported by Russian prosecutors.
The first explosion took place yesterday at 20.55 Moscow time (two hours behind mainland Spain), leaving 64 miners trapped. The second, four hours later, surprised in 19 members of rescue teams, according to the Interfax agency, and damaged the main ventilation shaft of the mine, which was filled with smoke and gas.

Under these conditions and fear of new explosions, the authorities decided to suspend the search work. “Carrying out rescue efforts now would send people to death,” justified the regional governor, Aman Tuleyev was quoted by Itar-Tass, which said they would continue when conditions improve.

Meanwhile, rescue teams try to pump oxygen inside the mine, according to Valery Korchagin, an official of the regional emergency services. However, the hopes of finding the trapped alive diminish with each passing hour. A company official Raspadskaya, which owns the mine, told Itar-Tass that has lost contact with the 20 rescue workers trapped, and it is unknown if still alive.

According to the official spokesman of the education committee of the prosecutor in the Kemerovo region, Nadezhda Anáneva have already been brought to the surface the bodies of seven miners, while the bodies of five others remain inside the mine, which produces eight million tons of coal.

At the time of the first accident, were inside the mine between 312 and 359 workers (the figures of the Russian government and the mining company are different), most of whom were evacuated. A total of 53 were admitted to hospital in the town of Mezhdurechensk, of which eight are in serious condition.
