Polanski’s lawyers ask for secret information
Roman Polanski’s lawyers asked a judge Thursday to declassify secret original tax returns in violation of the award-winning filmmaker to help the Swiss authorities to take a decision on his extradition.
In a motion that underscores the urgency of your request, lawyers and Bart Dalton Chad Hummel said they need to submit the declaration of retired Deputy District Attorney Roger Gunson Swiss authorities are considering extraditing Polanski United States after more than three decades fugitive.
The application states that the transcripts show that the extradition request is based on false and incomplete statements of the district attorney’s office in Los Angeles.
“We urgently need those transcripts,” says the motion, which requested a hearing on May 10 before Superior Court Judge Peter Espinoza.
Gunson spoke this year in what is known as a conditional test, a process which preserves the testimony of a witness would not be available in future hearings.
Espinoza remained sealed transcripts based on their interpretation of the law on these exams. The defense said his interpretation was wrong.
Prosecutors and defense lawyers met behind closed doors in February and March and defense paraphrased parts of Gunson’s statement of his own notes on a request to the state appeals court.
Defense attorneys want to provide to the Swiss authorities Gunson’s exact words.
The Swiss authorities arrested the director on 26 September at the request of U.S. authorities when Polanski arrived in Zurich to receive an award at a film festival. He was held prisoner for over two months before being transferred to his Swiss chalet, where is under house arrest after posting bail of $ 4.5 million.
Polanski was accused in 1977 of a drunk 13 year old girl with champagne and give him a sedative and then raping her at Jack Nicholson’s house. The director fled the country the day before his sentencing.
