Monuments Council claim damages from the 2010 Dakar
The National Monuments Council (CMN) requested a compensation of 300 million pesos (about $ 570,000) to the National Sports Institute for damage to property caused the Dakar Rally in 2010 when he passed through northern Chile.
A report of CMN showed damage in 56 of 111 heritage sites reviewed after the race, of which 13 had loss of archaeological information and half high in the area of Quillagua, some 1,300 kilometers north of Santiago.
The study also caused damage of more than 50% at four archaeological sites, such as changes in lithic workshops used by prehistoric peoples for making stone tools or the tracks used by caravans before the arrival of Europeans.
The WCC executive secretary, Oscar Acuna, told local media the previous year contracted a study to determine the assets that could be damaged by the race. However, the report was delivered in November and already managed to be taken into account in the design of the course.
For this edition, the CMN is proposed to advance the development of risk report for the month of August so that might affect the definition of the path.
In the last edition of the Dakar Rally, 373 vehicles traveled 4056 kilometers in northern Chile.
