Charles Phillips Oracle Ex President Takes on a New Role. Oracle Names New President Mark Hurd

Without Charles Phillips Oracle may have been left without a crutch since Phillips had long been acknowledged to be one of the reasons Oracle had enjoyed vastly improved revenues in the past years. Thankfully, the company was able to readily snap up another excellent executive, Mark Hurd, who recently left Hewlett Packard. The controversy behind Hurd’s ousting came from the allegedly false expense reports Hurd filed for one of the company’s marketing contractors Jodie Fisher.

The latter worked for the company from 2007 to 2009 and was the main subject of the sexual harassment probing that eventually led to Hurd’s removal from the HP’s executive roster. Larry Ellison, the Chief Executive Officer of Oracle, the third largest software developer in the world, did not hesitate to voice out his opinion about the issue, stating that HP’s board’s actions were  unjust. Being a close friend of Hurd, Ellison was also quick to hire the executive and welcome him to the board of Oracle.

Unlike Charles Phillips Oracle new co-president was a relatively unknown figure before he was declared CEO for the hardware company. Before his promotion, it was evident that HP’s sales were sluggish and almost immediately improved when Hurd took over. With Hurd in control, HP was able to effectively minimize the gap between its two biggest competitors, industry leaders International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) and SAP. When Hurd left, however, financial reports show that the company’s stocks dipped by 13%. Hurd was also able to help his old company improve its performance with various successful cost-cutting strategies.
